Beat the pain with Ayurveda- Ayurvedic medicine for body pain

Body pain tends to stem from a myriad of factors such as diseases, injuries, infections and poor posture. There are many causes of body pain from physical strain to underlying medical conditions. The pain can affect muscles, nerves and tissues. It can also result from tiredness or exercise. It is important to understand what causes body pain and when to seek medical attention. They vary in frequency and intensity. The aches appear anywhere in the body. The location of these aches varies from one case to another. The aches are treatable and harmless. 

What are the causes of body ache/pain?

There are a variety of causes of body ache ranging from certain lifestyle factors to complex medical condition. Following are some of the causes of body pain-

1.    Infections and viruses.

After you fight an infection such as COVID-19 or dengue, your immune system releases inflammatory chemicals known as cytokines. Cytokines cause inflammation in joints and muscles which ultimately leads to body aches. Following are some common symptoms of body pain-

·       Chills.

·       Fever.

·       Fatigue.

·       Cough.

·       Sore throat.

 

2.    Physical exercise.

Intense physical activity causes micro-tears in the muscle fibers. It leads to delayed onset Muscle Soreness also known as DOMS. It occurs 12-48 hours after exertion. The common symptoms include soreness and pain that worsens with movement.

 

3.    Fluid retention.

A swelling or inflammation may develop when the body retains fluid. This results in muscular pains and aches. An individual may also experience sharp, localized pains. Following conditions lead to fluid retention-

·       Congestive heart failure.

·       Thyroid problems.

·       Malnutrition.

·       Problems with lymphatic drainage.

 

4.    Lack of sleep.

Aching can be a cause of sleep deficiency. The individuals who experience chronic pain find it hard to sleep. This can lead to exhaustion which in turn leads to pain. Lack of sleep affect the ability of the body to repair tissues. A person may experience aches when the body does not have sufficient time to repair.

 

5.    Autoimmune disorders.

Lupus- This disorder occurs when the immune system of a person attacks healthy tissues.

Myositis- It causes inflammation of muscles and other symptoms of myositis are fatigue and a feeling of being unwell.

 

Ayurvedic medicines for body pain.

The mystic world of Ayurveda offers a plethora of natural remedies for addressing body pain, joint issues and nerve pain. Following are some ayurvedic medicines for body pain-

1.    Mahanarayana Taila.

Also known as Mahanarayana Thailam, the traditional oil is known for its pain-relieving and rejuvenating properties. The oil is composed of natural ingredients and herbs that work together and provide a comprehensive relief from all kinds of body pain. It also promotes an overall wellness. Following are the ingredients present in the oil-

·       Sesame oil- It is the base oil known for its penetrating and nourishing properties.

·       Bala- Also known as Sida Cordifolia, it is known for its analgesic effects.

·       Dashamoola- It is a combination of ten roots which help reduce pain and inflammation.

·       Shatavari- It supports the body’s resilience and reduces stress.

 

 

2.    Rasnadi oil.

The drug is an herbal oil formulation and is used in aiding instant pain relief. The drug is beneficial in cold and cough like symptoms. It is prepared by using coconut oil or sesame oil as base. The drug is used for managing diseases affecting the head.

This medicated oil prepared from natural herbs acts on vata dosha. The oil is applied locally over painful regions. The drug helps in pacification of vitiated vata dosha. The ingredients present in the drug are as follows-

·       Madhuk.

·       Bala.

·       Gambhari.

·       Patla.

·       Shayonak.

·       Atibala.

·       Bilwa.

 

Rasna helps in aiding rheumatic pain and pacifies muscle spasms.

Madhuk- It improves blood circulation and reduces pain, swelling and inflammation.

Atibala- The ingredient is useful in gout and other inflammatory conditions.

Bilwa- It cures diseases which are caused due to vitiated vata and kapha dosha.

3.    Yogaraj Guggulu.

Yogaraj Guggulu works at the forefront in relieving the pain caused by arthritis, joint pain etc. The drug helps nourish muscle fibers and also maintains the strength and stamina of an individual. It also aids in increasing appetite and improving digestion. Many conditions can arise due to imbalance vata dosha such as gout, arthritis and joints pain. The drug is also beneficial in conditions like urine infection owing to its diuretic properties.

The ingredients present in the drug are Pippalimool which relieves inflammation, Jeers which improves digestion and rasna which helps manage joints pain.

What are the precautions one should take before consuming the drug?

Following are some precautions one should take before consuming the drug-

4.    Vataganjankusha Rasa.

Available in a tablet form, the drug is used in the treatment of neuro-muscular diseases. The medicine is also known as Vatagajankusa Gutika. It is used for treating ailments such as arthritis, Torticollis, Brachialgia and spondylosis. It is also used for treating thigh muscles and cramps. The ingredients present in the drugs are Loha Bhasma, Makshika Bhasma, Shuddha Gandhaka, Shuddha Haratala, Shrungi, Pathya etc.

It is used in rheumatoid arthritis, frozen shoulder and lumbar spondylosis. Owing to its hotness, it balance vata and kapha doshas.  It also promotes strength of bones and joints. The medicine is also used for treating ankle pain, slipped disc, back spasm, sprain, back injury and stiffness of muscles. It is recommended to avoid deep fried foods, fast foods, aerated drinks and excess alcohol while taking the drug.

Dose

The generic dosage of the drug is 125- 250 mg once or twice a day. It should be taken before or after taking the meal. It is advised to take the drug along with honey, long pepper and manjistha.

 

5.    Sahacharadi Taila.

The drug consists of an array of medicines for neuro muscular health. The formulation of the drug is used in Ayurveda for back and lower limb pain. The drug aids relief from low back ache, promotes muscle health and helps control involuntary movements like tremor.
